Who they are: The Valdez Museum and Historical Archive Association, Inc. (VMHA), is private non-profit corporation that manages and operates the Valdez Museum with the goals of decreasing dependence on City funding, increasing the Museum's ability to care for and manage the community's heritage materials, and to continue to serve the community of Valdez.
What they needed: VMHA had a web site that was first put online in the late 90s. It was slow, had outdated information and terrible graphics. They needed first and foremost a redesign, but likewise they needed enhanced features such as member management, online calendar and online donations.
What they got: I developed an intuitive and fun website for Valdez Museum that serves three purposes. First I created an fun attractive design that draws people to the site and invites them to explore through the usage of such features as an online gallery and radio snippets from the popular Valdez show "Historical Moment". Second I added robust features such as my popular Content Management System, online donations and online membership management. Finally I developed a "Gold Rush Names" web application that searches and displays thousands of pieces of information related to hundreds of people who passed through Valdez during the gold rush period (1898-1904). The site has been immensely popular and site visitors have grown from 60 people / month in November 2004, to 1500 people / month in Febrary 2006.
